Launching its mainnet in 2019, Nervos Network (CKB) is an open-source public blockchain ecosystem that combines the security of Proof-of-work consensus with smart contract functionality. The Nervos Common Knowledge Base, a ‘Store of Assets’ permissionless blockchain, forms the base layer of the Nervos system. This Common Knowledge Base allows any crypto-asset to be stored with the same immutability and security of Bitcoin, all while enabling next-generation scaling and the development of DApps. Offering flexibility for novel blockchains through a combination of CKB’s cells (a generalised version of the UXTO model) and the RISC-V instruction set (defining a global standard for computing to ensure consistency and avoid forking), new algorithms can be easily deployed and integrated without splitting. Instead, the CKB algorithm adapts according to the bandwidth of participating nodes, automatically scaling up with bandwidth improvements to ensure the network’s sustainability.
